What is Distracted Driving?

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration defines distracted driving as any activity that diverts attention from driving, including talking or texting on your phone, eating and drinking, talking to people in your vehicle, fiddling with the stereo, entertainment or navigation system — anything that takes your attention away from the task of safe driving.

You never know what behaviors your kids pick up from you, so keep your phone down and your eyes on the road. Talk with your young driver about the responsibilities that come with driving.

Indiana Is Hands-Free

To curb distracted driving, Indiana passed a hands-free device driving law in 2020, which prohibits motorists from holding their telecommunications device, except in emergencies, when operating the vehicle.
