FROM THE COMMISSIONER

Ride Safe Indiana (RSI) continues to serve as the state’s motorcycle safety program under the BMV. I am proud of the training and awareness RSI continues to drive across the state alongside its providers. Hoosiers, and all those who travel through our state, are safer every day because of the joint efforts to continue spreading the word about motorcycle safety and offering training for new, three-wheel, and advanced motorcycle riders.

The numbers tell the story. In summary, in 2021 riders participating in RSI training totaled the second highest in five years. The course pass rate was 88%, also an increase over the prior year. Perhaps the most impactful statistic when reviewing 2021 is the decline in motorcycle fatalities, which in Indiana decreased in 2021 by 4% versus the prior year.

RSI is looking forward to the start of motorcycle season in 2022 and has yet again planned a robust season of training and promotion of services. Thank you to all RSI providers for continuing to partner with the state and bringing awareness to motorcycle safety for both riders and motorists.
