Daviess County was created in 1817 from Knox County. It is located in southwest Indiana. The county seat is Washington.
The courthouse experienced fires in 1891, 1927, and 1985 that resulted in some record losses. Many sources also cite a fire in 1879, but there is no mention of that fire in the Washington newspapers of the time.
