About the Dining Assistant Training Program
The Dining Assistant Training Program at the Indiana Department of Health (IDOH) is designed to ensure that individuals meet both state and federal requirements to work as dining assistants in Indiana. There is not an official registry of dining assistants in Indiana.
Dining assistants work primarily in long-term care facilities, such as nursing homes, where they support residents in dining safely. Facilities with approved dining assistant training programs normally train those who assist in their own facility. Dining assistants utilize various feeding techniques and support the feeding and hydration needs for residents. Dining assistants perform their duties under the supervision of a licensed nurse and must operate strictly within the scope of practice defined for a dining assistant.
