Vaccine-Preventable and Invasive Diseases
Overview
Vaccine-preventable diseases (VPDs) are infectious diseases caused by bacteria or viruses and can be prevented by vaccines. Symptoms vary based on the illness, but can include symptoms like fever, rash, and cough. VPDs can cause long-term illness, hospitalization, and even death. Invasive diseases are infectious diseases that cause infections in parts of the body that are normally considered free of bacteria, or sterile, such as blood or cerebral spinal fluid.
