SERV-IN

State Emergency Registry of Volunteers for Indiana (SERV-IN) is an electronic registration system and database of local, regional and statewide volunteer programs for medical and non-medical volunteers who want to assist our public health and healthcare system during an event or disaster. The system is managed locally to register, credential and alert volunteers. When disaster strikes, you may be asked to volunteer at the local, state or national level depending on your credentials, interest and availability.

How to register on SERV-IN?

To register on SERV-IN, go to https://serv-in.org. On the homepage, select "Register Now". As you register, you may search for organizations in your area for which you are interested in volunteering. You may search for organizations by Indiana County, Indiana District, Indiana Medical Reserve Corp Unit, or Indiana Statewide Organizations. If there is not an organization in your area, or you do not wish to join an organization, you may skip ahead and continue. By default, all users belong to the State Emergency Registry of Volunteers for Indiana group. Once registered, you will be able to access your profile to add additional information. If you have selected an organization, an administrator will contact you to discuss it further.
Why is the registry necessary?

Recent large-scale disasters have shown that an effective response requires pre-registered and credentialed volunteers to provide assistance to those who were impacted. In the event of an emergency, officials will decide what skills are essential for the response. If your skills match the needs, you will be alerted and given the opportunity to respond.
What do I gain from volunteering?
What is expected of volunteers?

After registering you may be asked to participate in disaster-related training and exercises to prepare you for your role in the response and, in the case of an actual emergency, you may be asked to respond based on your skills. Once notified of an emergency or training opportunity, you are free to decide whether or not to participate.
Registering does NOT obligate you to respond during any given emergency.

Medical Reserve Corps (MRC)

The MRC is a national network of local groups of volunteers committed to improving the public health, emergency response and resiliency of their communities. There are 25 MRC units in Indiana established with local health departments, 1 university-based MRC unit with Indiana University, and 1 State agency-based MRC unit with the Indiana Board of Animal Health.

MRC units are federally recognized groups of medical, non-medical, and public health volunteers who actively train and exercise to aid their community in the event of a disaster. Many MRC units are similar to local health department volunteer groups. Both use SERV-IN to register, manage, message and engage volunteers, but MRC volunteers are typically involved more frequently in regular meetings and community events.
