    Fit test machine
    Fit Test Machine

The fit test machine used for fitting SCBA respirator masks properly in accordance with U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations. The machine tests whether a mask is leaking or fitting properly so the firefighter wearing it can safely use the mask in firefighting scenarios.

    Hazmat Trailer

The hazmat trailer comes with props and equipment for technician-level initial and refresher training. It provides students with a foundational understanding of overall hazardous material response disciplines. The unit applies elevated training objectives at all levels, including First Responder Operational (FRO) and Technician and Hazardous Materials Specialist (industry’s expert level).

This unit is designed to provide a variety of hazardous material training scenarios commonly found in commercial and industrial applications.

    • Variety of portable training devices
    • Fixed mounted railcar platform with multiple training domes and an outdoor classroom. The included portable training units are removed from the transporter for training and can be incorporated with auxiliary training devices to create scenarios.
    • Requires 60 feet by 20 feet operations area at a minimum
  • Live Fire Trailer - Class A
Live fire trailer - class A
Live Fire Trailer - Class A

Classes using this trailer will offer students ways to see different fire growth stages and learn proper ways to attack vented and unvented fires, using correct nozzle patterns and ways to use hydraulic and positive pressure ventilation. This equipment allows classes to adhere to NFPA 1403. The mobile burn trailer requires a minimum of five instructors to conduct live fire training, so this trailer will be scheduled based on the availability of both the equipment and instructors.

    This trailer includes two components:

    • Mobile trainee: A portable fire training structure featuring a burn room. Complete with a trailer and leveling feet, the mobile trainee allows fire service instructors to conduct live fire evolutions at multiple locations.
    • Mobile burn trailer: Provides the ability to train for live burns, forcible entry, ventilation and search/rescue

An Academy-approved and qualified live fire instructor must be coordinated with requests for this equipment. Contact your local Academy program manager for more details.

  • SCBA Compressor and Cascade Trailer
    SCBA Compressor and Cascade Trailer

This trailer provides a cascade air storage system to fill air bottles at training operations.

  • Sprinkler Demo Burn Trailer
    Sprinkler demo trailer
    Sprinkler Demo Burn Trailer

The sprinkler demo burn trailer is a community risk reduction prop used to demonstrate the difference between a fire protection automatic sprinkler system equipped room and a room with nothing other than a smoke detector. Each room must be furnished identically with a small loveseat, chair, end table and normal decorations such as curtains and artwork on the wall. These must be supplied by the agency requesting the unit. There also must be a fire engine on site to utilize the trailer, and firefighters must be geared up to control the fires.

All costs involved are the requesting agency's responsibility. Requesting agencies must also file for an Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) burn permit.

    • 27 feet long, 12.5 feet high, 8 feet wide
    • Steel frame
    • Wooden floor and units
    • Weighs about 7,000 pounds

The prop can have up to eight doors (both inward and outward swinging options) to use for door breach exercises. For rooftop training, there are up to four adjustable pitched roofs, including two with 12-foot extensions.

It includes options for force doors, force windows, Denver Drill inserts, wall-breaching capabilities, garage door simulations, roof hatches, second-story bailout windows, access ladders, adjustable roof training modules, ceiling venting setups and comprehensive safety railings and chains.

Equipment Reservations Calendar

This calendar shows all equipment reservations that have been approved and confirmed by the Academy. Newly submitted (unapproved) requests will not be shown.

Select a piece of equipment to learn more details about a reservation, such as its location.

If there is an arrow inside a triangle at the bottom-right corner of a date on the calendar, that indicates there are more equipment reservations than are shown by default. Select the arrow to expand the calendar to see more reservations on that date.

Note: The reservation calendar does not display in a calendar view on mobile devices. Use a computer for the best experience, or select the toggle button at the top of the calendar to view the calendar in a spreadsheet view or list view.

Reservation Requests

Requests for equipment are accepted at all times. However, the Academy strongly encourages departments to plan well in advance for reservation requests. Equipment reservations are approved quarterly, meaning the deadline for submitting requests is 90 days prior to the next quarter. This allows Academy staff sufficient time to schedule equipment in a manner that best accommodates logistics and regional training needs.

All requests must be submitted for each three-month period (Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4) by the start of the previous quarter. See the following schedule:

Request Deadline Schedule
Quarter Requested Reservation Dates (When Equipment Needed) Request Deadline
First quarter (Q1) January, February, March October 1
Second quarter (Q2) April, May, June January 1
Third quarter (Q3) July, August, September April 1
Fourth quarter (Q4) October, November, December July 1
All Requests Tentative
  • All submitted reservation requests are tentative and will not display on the reservations calendar until after the Academy has confirmed details of a request with the requestor and approved the reservation.
  • Academy staff manually review and process all equipment requests. Reservation decisions are based on equipment availability and location regionally.
  • Please do not plan on or publicize use of any requested equipment until after receiving follow-up approval and confirmation from the Academy. Academy staff will follow up directly with requesting agencies before reservations are confirmed.
  • Notification of decisions regarding reservation requests will occur at least 30 days prior to the next quarter.
Request Guidelines
  • The request form requires a preferred start and end date for equipment use, as well as two backup time periods. Keep in mind that, in general, equipment is available for a maximum of two weeks.
  • Submit requests for multiple types of equipment for the same time period as separate (different) requests.
