Externships & Internships

The Indiana Tax Court offers spring, fall, and summer opportunities for externs and interns to gain firsthand experience in a judicial setting. Selected candidates will collaborate directly with the Honorable Judge McAdam and his staff, contributing to the meaningful work of the court. Responsibilities may include conducting legal research, drafting memoranda, and editing and proofreading judicial opinions.

Fall & Spring Externships

Anticipated openings

Judge McAdam hires up to four externs each semester. Application materials should be combined into one PDF and emailed to the Court Administrator,  Karyn Graves. Applications can also be mailed to:

Eligibility

Positions are available to students who have completed their first year of law school.

Application Deadlines

  • Applications for the Fall Semester must be submitted no later than June 1st of the prior summer.
  • Applications for the Spring Semester must be submitted no later than November 1st of the prior fall.

Applications

Externs are selected through a competitive review of application materials and interviews (in person or via telephone.) Applications must include the following materials:

  1. Cover Letter
  2. Resume
  3. College transcript and law school transcript (unofficial is acceptable)
  4. Writing sample

Compensation

Externships are unpaid; however, externs may receive academic credit for their participation. Students are encouraged to coordinate with their law school.

Summer Internship

Eligibility

First and second year law students are eligible.

Application Deadline

Application for the Summer Semester must be submitted no later than January 31st of the prior spring.

Applications

  3. College transcript and law school transcript (unofficial is acceptable)
  4. Writing sample

Compensation

Approximately $17per hour; working 75 hours biweekly

Length of Employment

Ten weeks, typically from mid-May through mid-July
