2026 Judicial Retention

In 2026, the Marion County Judicial Selection Committee (MCJSC) will fulfill its statutory duty to make public recommendations to voters concerning the retention of Marion Superior Court judges. To stand for retention (approval or rejection by Marion County voters) in the 2026 General Election, incumbent judges in retention class B were asked to submit an application to the committee and invited to take part in public interviews. The committee will make recommendations after the interviews. See IC 33-33-49-13.7 for more information.

On March 4, Governor Mike Braun signed HEA 1033, which created IC 33-33-49-13.8 and modified the MCJSC’s duties regarding retention. The committee will now interview each judge wishing to stand for retention and vote upon the judge’s suitability to serve another term. Each judge found suitable to remain in office by the committee will appear on the retention ballot in 2026 to be approved or rejected by Marion County voters. Judges who are not found suitable by the committee will not be retained beyond the judge’s current term.
