The Marion County Judicial Selection Committee consists of 14 members for terms of four years: four attorney members appointed by legal associations, four members selected by legislative leaders, four members appointed by the chairs of both political parties (two appointments from each), one vice-chair, and one Supreme Court Justice who serves as chair. The Committee is required to evaluate candidates and submit to the Governor, three nominees who are the most highly qualified from among all the eligible individuals considered. Public Notice of September 16, 2024 Executive Session (immediately followed by a possible public session)
The Marion County Judicial Selection Committee is working to fill the vacancies of two superior court judges. Judge John Hanley (D) and Judge Mark Stoner (D) will retire effective December 31, 2024. Details on the vacancies are online. On Monday, September 16 at 3:00 pm (Eastern) in the Supreme Court Conference Room, State House Room 319, 200 W. Washington Street, Indianapolis, IN 46204, the commission will meet in executive session in accordance with IC 5-14-1.5-6.1 (10) (A-C). Given the large number of applications, the commission will discuss whether to interview all applicants. If the commission determines that not every applicant will be interviewed, the executive session will immediately be followed by a public session with a vote.
