Court-Certified vs. Court-Qualified
Court-certified and court-qualified interpreters have been trained and tested through Indiana's court interpreter certification program. The difference between an interpreter that is certified and one that is qualified has to do with the oral exam. The National Center for State Courts provides the oral exam content, but if there is no oral exam for the language in which an interpreter seeks to be certified, their credential is listed as "qualified" instead. This is more common for languages and dialects spoken by smaller populations.
Regardless of the certified or qualified credential, interpreters who have completed Indiana's court interpreter certification program are preferred over other types of interpreters in most situations.
