Access to Justice Office

Mission

The Access to Justice Office manages and develops court programs, judicial training and initiatives that bolster the public's trust in the judiciary by supporting Indiana underrepresented community's path to justice. This office seeks to fairly support all participant's access to various entry points of the Indiana legal justice system.

Vision

The Access to Justice Office:

  • Encourages and challenges all to think and learn from others’ perspectives;
  • Assists and supports accessibility efforts for our internal staff, external stakeholders, and constituents across the state of Indiana.
  • Strives to be a leader in the workplace and state of Indiana where each individual feels welcomed, valued, and supported for success.

What we do:

The Office offers Procedural Fairness training to judicial branch stakeholders; equipping participants to build working relationships through common ground while acknowledging the perspective of others with different lived experiences. The Office staffs the Coalition for Court Access, Language Access Committee, Race & Gender Fairness Commission and other judicial access committees. The Office manages the Language Access Program, which certifies court interpreters and distributes statewide grants, manages the ICLEO law school preparatory and scholarship program, and consults with other agencies/departments to ensure matters of judicial accessibility are considered in all OJA projects.
