IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR INSURANCE AND BOND UPDATES
o As of October 1, 2024, as part of its ongoing modernization efforts, bond or insurance updates must be completed online through the Dealer Portal. Following September 30, the Division will no longer accept bond or insurance updates via US mail or email. This will ensure timely and accurate updates to the dealer account.
An Application for a license issued by the Indiana Secretary of State, Auto Dealer Services Division must be accompanied by evidence of a bond in the amount of twenty-five thousand dollars ($25,000). The bond in favor of the Secretary of State and secure payment of fines, penalties, costs, and fees assessed by the Secretary.
The Secretary of State Auto Dealer Services Division's new bond form is State Form 53966. Please ensure you are using the (R7/03-24) version of the bond form. Bonds on older versions of State Form 53966 will not be accepted.
The Division will accept continuation certificates for existing bonds.
Please note:
- You must sign the bond before submitting it to our office. This is one of the most common errors dealers make when applying for a license.
- When your bond is canceled or expires, you must submit a new bond as soon as possible. Your dealer license will be suspended during any lapse in bond coverage.
