Biographical Note:
Russell Rhodes was born around 1897. He was a graduate of Indiana University and began practicing law in 1921 with his father in Peru, Indiana. Rhodes was a Navy pilot during World War I and became a captain in the United State Navy Reserve. During World War II, he served at various shore installations. His last wartime assignment was as executive officer of the Alameda (California) Naval Air Station. He returned to his law practice following his service. Rhodes was also active in the American Legion. He died on July 10, 1957.

Scope and Content Note:
The collection contains a letter from Russell “Rocky” Rhodes to William Lane of the Conklin Pen Company. The two men served in the Naval Air Service together and were stationed in Florida.
