Carpooling

Benefits of Carpooling

The State of Indiana encourages carpooling as a way to decrease congestion, reduce emissions on NO-ZONE action days, and save state employees money.

Carpool Parking

Special parking areas in the Senate Avenue and Washington Street garages are designated for individuals who carpool with other state employees and who have a carpool hang tag.

In order to participate in the carpooling program, two or more state employees must complete the Preferred Parking Program Application.

The carpooling forms must be submitted to aco@idoa.in.gov.  Upon approval, a special hanging tag will be issued which entitles the vehicle to park in the designated area.

Accessibility

Any employee that has issued to them and displays a disabled parking permit, placard, or license plate, as issued by the Bureau of Motor Vehicles, is entitled to park in designated accessible parking spaces. These spaces are located throughout the campus in all garages, surface lots, and along Senate Avenue.

Specific spaces will not be assigned to specific individuals. Any employee with an official state-issued permit may park in parking spaced designated as accessible. No one may park in access aisles.

Two-wheeled Vehicles and Scooters

Bicycles

Both Government Center parking garages provide bicycle racks for use by state employees. Bicycles are to be chained or locked to a designated bicycle rack located in either the Senate Ave or Washington St. garage. Bicycles are not permitted beyond the barrier gates.

Motorcycles, Motor Scooters, and Motorized Bicycles

Motorcycles, motor scooters, and motorized bicycles must park in a designated area.

In the Senate Avenue facility, the authorized motorcycle, motor scooter, and motorized bicycle parking area is located on the east side of the garage, inside the Senate Avenue entrance. The motorcycle parking area is adjacent to and west of the trash dumpster. Motorcycles are not permitted beyond the barrier gates.

Motorcycles, motor scooters, and motorized bicycles are permitted in entrances 1, 2, and 4 of the Washington Street garage. Due to the possibility of injury, no motorcycles are permitted beyond the barrier gates.
