The ALL-IN Bicentennial Block Party presented a unique opportunity to bring many community organizations together to celebrate the Bicentennial and to engage our community members in learning more about our state’s history. Groups with different missions and audiences were able to work together in a way that strengthened our community and opened up new partnerships for the future. The festival atmosphere enabled families to attend the program, take part in challenges that taught them about our state and solicited their input and ideas, enjoy a free meal, and witness the last leg of the torch relay through Carroll County.

Q&A with Legacy Project Coordinator Kelly Currie

What do you consider the key accomplishment of your Legacy Project?

  • We succeeded in bringing many community organizations and individuals together to celebrate the Bicentennial Torch Relay and the state of Indiana. It was a great day!

Describe a highlight or most memorable moment related to your Legacy Project.

  • One of the "challenges" for participants was to tell what they love about Indiana. An administrator from the elementary school brought along several students to film the participants and put together a video for us that we could share later with the community.

How/where are you preserving information and artifacts related to your Legacy Project?

  • The "why I love Indiana" video is posted on the library's Facebook page. We have maintained a file of media clippings and print materials from the event. We are sending many of these to the Indiana State Library for their archive.
