Restoration of the West Sonora Arch, which is nearly a century old, will be a contribution to the preservation of local and Indiana history. The arch is a large poured-concrete structure build by Albert A. Newer in 1919 to identify his stock farm. Some of the concrete has chipped and deteriorated and needs to be restored and repainted so that it will remain a landmark along the Historic Michigan Road Byway, which opened the central and northern part of Indiana to early settlement. The words “West Sonora” on the arch reflect the early platted name of present Deer Creek, Indiana.
