Crowd gathered at the current site of Herron High School, once the grounds of T. C. Steele's home and studio and the first location of the John Herron Art Institute.
The dedication opened with music and poetry by Herron High School alumni.
Jason Simons, Chief Development Officer at Herron High School, welcomed the crowd and introduced the speakers.
Steele decendents and Herron High School students unveil the marker.
David Steele, descendent of T. C. Steele, addressed the crowd on the legacy of the artist and school.
Dr. James Glass relayed the history of the school and grounds.
Casey Pfeiffer, Marker Program Manager at the Indiana Historical Bureau, thanked the marker supporters and addressed the significance of the marker topic.
Joanna Taft, Herron High School Board President and Director of the Harrison Center for the Arts spoke on the creation of Herron High School.
Janet McNeal, Head of School, Herron High School, spoke on the impact of the Steele and Herron legacy on current students and the growth of the area around the school.
