Supreme Court to hold oral argument in Boone County
The Indiana Supreme Court will travel to Lebanon High School in Boone County on Thursday, June 30, in celebration of Justice Steven David's final oral argument with the Court. Justice David is retiring this year and previously served as a Boone County trial court judge.
The Court holds approximately 60 oral arguments at the State House in Indianapolis each year and occasionally schedules arguments outside the capital. Traveling oral arguments allow students, press, and the public in other areas of the state the opportunity to see the work of the Court.
The Court will hold oral argument in James McCoy v. State of Indiana (21A-CR-2000), a criminal case about advisement of rights. This argument will take place in the auditorium of Lebanon High School, 510 Tiger Way, Lebanon, IN 46052 at 10:30 a.m. (Eastern). The 50-minute argument is open to the press and public. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis, but registration is requested. Those interested in attending will be required to enter through door 5 from the main school parking lot and go through security.
Press are welcome to attend in person to videotape/photograph the argument. There are rules to establish decorum: courts.in.gov/supreme/files/order-supreme-broadcast-coverage.pdf. Adjustments will be made due to the location; therefore, press interested in attending must contact Outreach Coordinator Sarah Kidwell at sarah.kidwell@courts.in.gov by Friday, June 24 at 12:00 p.m. (Eastern).
The argument will be webcast live and archived on the Court’s website. Lebanon High School is accessible to those with disabilities. Accessible parking is available in the main lot from Tiger Way. Individuals needing special accommodations should contact Sarah Kidwell.
