Clark County Indiana Needs Poll Workers

Working at the polls is a fun opportunity to participate in the election process and to earn a few extra dollars. Our democracy depends on Hoosiers taking the initiative to play an active role in the freedoms of democracy. The State of Indiana is calling on civic-minded individuals to work the polls on Election Day.

There are two easy requirements in order to participate:

  • You must be a registered voter and a resident of Clark County
  • You must be at least 18 years old

In Clark County, 16 and 17 year olds can work at the polls

  • You must be 16 or 17 years old
  • A citizen of the United States and a resident of Clark County
  • Must complete poll worker training

2. Participate in Poll Worker Training

At poll worker training, you will learn everything you will need to know about your duties on election day

3. Show up at your designated polling location on election day

Summary of Election Duties for Poll Workers

Democratic Judge - $150

  • Acts as the counterpart to the Inspector by assisting with decisions made for the polling location.
  • Provides instructions to voters when asked about the ballot of voting procedures.
  • Accompanies the Inspector to poll location set up the night before the election, and with returning the supplies and results to the county building on the night of the election.
  • May Check voter ID's

Republican Judge - $130

  • Provides instructions to voters when asked about the ballot or voting procedures.
  • May assist voters with impairments.
  • May Check voter ID's
  • May Challenge voters
  • Assist other poll workers

Inspector - $180

  • Acts as the manager of the Poll Location
  • Attends Inspector training and picks up poll location supplies the weekend before the election.
  • Administers the oath of office of all poll workers at your location.
  • Announces the opening and closing of your location.
  • Handles any challenges and oversees the accountability of the ballots.
  • Returns election supplies and results to the county building on the night of the election.
  • Makes sure the tabulator machine works properly for the entire day.

Clerks - $130

  • Primary function is Record Keeping.
  • Assists voters with signing in to the poll pads and confirming all information is correct.
  • Helps set up poll pads and sign in area.
