The Vital Records Section of the Spencer County Health Department started keeping records in February of 1882. There are no records in Indiana before that time. The Indiana State Department of Health in Indianapolis started keeping records in October of 1907.
Hours
Records can be obtained from our office on:
- Walk in basis
- Monday through Friday (except legal holidays)
- 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Identification
Indiana requires an applicant requesting a birth or death certificate, whether by mail or in person, be required to show one form of identification containing the applicant's signature. A driver's license or a state issued identification card is preferred. However, if these are unavailable, you may use a tax return, social security card, fishing license or credit card. Mail orders must include a photo copy of your driver's license or state issued identification card.
Cost
- Certified copies of birth certificates are $10 each.
- Certified copies of death certificates are $10 each.
- Counter checks are not accepted.
