Decatur County Prosecutor - Nathan W Harter IV

Nathan W. "Nate" Harter IV was raised in Decatur County since his family moved there in 1993. After a career as an athlete, leader, and scholar at Greensburg High School, Prosecutor Harter was blessed by the community with a Lilly Scholarship, which brought into sharp focus his dedication to learning a trade and building a career for a future return to Decatur County. He used his Lilly Scholarship to attend Butler University, where he earned varsity letters in track and field while serving in student government, and was selected to represent Butler nationally as a finalist for the prestigious Truman Scholarship.

After graduating from Butler in 2010, the prosecutor enrolled at the Indiana University Maurer School of Law, where he was the champion of the school’s Sherman Minton Moot Court Competition, captain of the school’s national Trial Competition Team, and president of the school’s chapter of the Federalist Society, a conservative group which stands for federalism, limited government, and judicial restraint.

After graduating from law school in 2013, he was elected to be Decatur County Prosecutor in 2014, in which capacity he combats substance abuse, property crime, and domestic violence. Harter is a member of the Indiana Prosecuting Attorneys Council’s teaching faculty and sits on the Council’s Legislative Committee, as well as the Board of the Association of Indiana Prosecuting Attorneys. He also served as an executive member of the transition team for Indiana Attorney General Curtis Hill.

He married his high school sweetheart, Rachel, and they live together back home again in Greensburg.
