Franklin County Prosecutor - Christopher Huerkamp

Christopher D. Heurkamp assumed office in January 2019. Prior to becoming prosecutor, he was Franklin County Chief Deputy from 2012 to 2018. He also served in the Hamilton County (Ohio) Prosecutor's Office from 2006 to 2011. Heurkamp graduated from Xavier University in 2002 and went to law school at the University of Cincinnati, graduating in 2006.

The office of the Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney is charged with the responsibility of representing the State of Indiana in all felony and misdemeanor criminal prosecutions, resulting from crimes committed within Franklin County, Indiana. In addition, the office prosecutes traffic and other infraction violations of state law, as well as juvenile violators. The Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney convenes and supervises all Grand Jury proceedings.

The Prosecuting Attorney is the chief law enforcement officer of Franklin County, utilizing local law enforcement agencies including the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department, Brookville Police Department, Batesville Police Department, Indiana State Police, Indiana Conservation Officers, Indiana State Excise Police, as well as Town Marshals and Deputies in Laurel and Oldenburg.

The Office of the Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney through its Title IVD Child Support Office is charged with the responsibility of enforcing child support orders entered in divorce and paternity cases. In appropriate cases, blood tests are performed and paternity actions are filed.

The Office of the Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney through its Victim Assistance Program serves as an advocate for victims, keeping them informed on the progress of their case through the criminal justice system, and acting as a liaison with other social service agencies.
