Indiana Commission for Women

Indiana Commission for Women

Message from the Executive Director

This is an exciting time for women in Indiana.  In just a few years, the country will be celebrating 100 years of women’s right to vote.  It is time to appreciate how far women have come, understand where women are today and what still needs to be done, and envision what women’s full participation would look like on that centennial milestone.

This is also an exciting time for the Indiana Commission for Women.  ICW has been serving the women of Indiana for over 20 years. Since the beginning, ICW has been committed to the full participation of women in all aspects of society n order to make Indiana a better place to live, work and raise a family.  Today, we are working to move Indiana women forward by serving as their voice in the public sector.

We continue to raise awareness of women’s needs and concerns and celebrate their contributions and successes.  We encourage women to become better connected to the opportunities and resources in their communities and in the State of Indiana and more engaged in finding solutions to the challenges that they face.

Join us and together, we can keep moving Indiana women forward.

Kristin Svyantek Garvey
Executive Director

Who We Are

The Indiana Commission for Women (ICW) exists to voice women's needs, concerns and challenges as well as celebrate their successes and contributions to Indiana.  ICW is committed to the full participation of women in all aspects of society in order to make Indiana a better place to live, work and raise a family by removing the barriers that hinder that participation by:

  • Increasing awareness of the status of women and their families and the issues they face;
  • Recognizing and promoting the contributions that Hoosier women make to their community, state and nation;
  • Providing balanced analysis of public policy issues that impact women in Indiana; and
  • Achieving operational excellence.

Our Mission

Our mission is to understand the needs of Indiana Women and their families, and to work strategically both within government and in our communities to help bring about positive solutions.

What We Do

  • Assessing the current needs and working toward the improvement of the status of women and their families across the state;
  • Advocating and acting as a voice for Indiana women;
  • Partnering with other governmental agencies and outside organizations to leverage the ability to make a positive impact on women's lives; and;
  • Representing Indiana's commitment to improving the quality of life for women and their families.
