Adam J. Krupp
Director
Adam Krupp is the Director of Indiana's Department of Child Services, appointed in January 2025 by Governor Mike Braun. Adam has served under multiple administrations, earning two Sagamore of the Wabash awards for his transformational work at the Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) and the Department of Revenue (DOR). During his blended career of public and private sector roles, which began as a high school teacher and includes practicing law for two of the nation's most prestigious law firms, Adam has cultivated a passion for organizational culture, operational efficiency, and public service through servant leadership.
Early in his tenure as Director, Adam launched Project Awaken, a statewide, multi-year transformation of Indiana’s child welfare system, whereby Gov. Braun’s administration and Indiana’s General Assembly will collaborate on operational and policy reform, beginning with an overhaul of DCS’s culture. Initially focused on the agency’s mission, vision, and purpose, paired with a realignment of DCS’s organizational structure and geographic service areas, Project Awaken will include public policy and community initiatives to bring Hoosiers together in support our Indiana’s most vulnerable.
In 2010, Adam was part of a team responsible for the overhaul of Indiana’s Medicaid eligibility system, tasked with ensuring Hoosiers received benefits in a timely manner. In 2015, he served as General Counsel for the BMV and played a central role in a historic re-write of Indiana’s motor vehicle laws found in Title 9 of the Indiana Code. At that time, the BMV underwent a successful modernization of its technology systems and branch operations. In 2017, Adam was appointed Commissioner of DOR, leading the agency through a multi-year transformation that included implementation of a new tax processing system, an updated tax code for Indiana, a restructuring of the agency’s operations, and culminated in becoming the first state government agency in the United States to earn a prestigious Top Workplace award in 2018 for its innovative workplace culture, an award the agency continues to receive on an annual basis.
A native of Plymouth, Indiana, Adam attended Purdue University before earning his law degree from Indiana University's Robert H. McKinney School of Law. Over the years, enriching the lives of children has been a big part of Adam's story. From teaching in the classroom, coaching youth soccer, serving as a board member for his local Boys & Girls Club, and volunteering as a Wish Granter for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, he has been dedicated to helping Hoosier children thrive. Adam is a frequent speaker on public service, government reform, and organizational leadership.
