Need an ID or driver's license in order to vote in this year's election?
BMV branches in counties holding a primary election (see below) will have extended business hours on Monday, May 1, 2023 from 8:30 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday, May 2, 2023 from 6:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. (local prevailing time) to issue ID cards and driver's licenses to be used for identification at a polling place. Branches will resume regular transaction activity on Wednesday, May 3, 2023.
These branches will prioritize processing transactions that include new, amended, renewed, or replacement identification cards, learner permits, driver’s licenses, and CDLs that do not require testing for voting purposes. The paper interim credential issued to customers at the branch at the time of the transaction or after a customer has completed an internet transaction is acceptable proof of identification for voting purposes.
Individuals who hold a driver’s license or ID card that expired after the last general election (November 3, 2020) may use the expired card as proof of identification for voting purposes.
Additional Transactions
The BMV will offer all transactions during Election Hours except for driving skills exams, however, as noted above certain transactions have priority. Customers who are required to take a driving skills exam to obtain or renew a license may choose to apply for a free ID card to use for voting purposed. Customers will have the option to complete a computer-based knowledge exam if the branch has capacity to facilitate the exam and the customer arrives at the branch at least 30 minutes prior to the posted closing time.
