Henry County-Indiana State Police arrested a Muncie, Indiana man operating a moped at 9:13 p.m. last night for operating a vehicle while impaired, and an outstanding warrant.
Trooper Nate Raney (Pendleton District) saw a man operating a moped northbound on Main Street at I Avenue with blood on his face. Trooper Raney attempted to stop the man to check on his welfare, and the man accelerated the moped through a stop sign without stopping.
The moped operator later identified as Adam E. Newell, age 53, 901 West Adams Street Muncie, Indiana attempted to turn into a private driveway, and crashed his 2009 Peace Sports moped.
Newell was taken to Henry County Hospital for minor injuries and released. Upon further investigation Trooper Raney determined Newell was intoxicated, and had an outstanding warrant issued from Delaware County.
Newell was arrested and preliminarily charged with:
- Operating a vehicle while impaired, a class "A" misdemeanor
- Failure to appear warrant issued from Delaware County for possession of marijuana
Newell was taken to the Henry County Jail and held on bond, additional charges are pending.
All criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until, and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
