The City of Anderson is seeking a water rate increase in IURC Cause No. 46171.
The City seeks a five-phase increase. Water rates for a 4,000-gallon monthly residential bill would rise from their current $24.95 level to $30.46 later this year, and to $47.58 when the new rates are fully implemented in 2029.
OUCC recommendations would limit the rate increase to approximately two-thirds of the City's request. The agency filed its testimony on Apr. 3, 2025:
The OUCC issued a Feb. 19, 2025 media release to invite public comments. The IURC held a public field hearing in Anderson on Mar. 6, 2025.
All publicly filed documents in the case are available on the IURC website, including the petition and following testimony the City filed on Dec. 9, 2024:
A typical rate case follows a 300-day schedule. This case's procedural schedule includes the following dates:
- Apr. 30: City Rebuttal Testimony Due
- May 21: IURC Evidentiary Hearing
- June/July: Post-Hearing Filings
A Commission order is expected later this year.
Municipal electric and sewer rates are not at issue in this case. Rates for Indiana municipal sewer utilities are regulated by locally elected city and town councils.
The IURC approved Anderson's current water rates in March 2015.
