NIPSCO Electric: Gas Generation Proposal

NIPSCO's electric utility is requesting IURC approval to build and operate a 400-megawatt natural gas-fired power plant, and approval to recover the costs through rates. The facility would be located at the current Schahfer Generating Station property in Jasper County. According to the utility's testimony, the construction and financing would cost approximately $643.7 million. The utility is also proposing the creation of a new tracker to recover the costs. The Generation Cost Tracker (GCT) mechanism would be adjusted every 6 months.

All publicly filed documents in this case (Cause No. 45947) are available on the IURC's website, including closing briefs from all formal parties.

UPDATE 10-16-24: The IURC has issued a final order approving NIPSCO's request.

The OUCC is the state agency - separate from the IURC - that represents all consumers in cases before the Commission.
