Stellar Communities

Launched in 2011, the Stellar Communities Designation Program is a multi-agency partnership designed to recognize Indiana's smaller communities that have identified comprehensive community and economic development projects and activities as well as next steps and key partnerships.

Based on feedback from previous years, for 2015 the designations were divided into two divisions:

New for 2015 is the expansion of the number of state agency partners for the Stellar Communities Designation Program.

Originated by OCRA, IHCDA and INDOT, state agency partners now include:

Stellar Communities has been recognized nationally as a premier community development program when it received the 2012 President's Award for Innovation from the Council of State Community Development Agencies (COSCDA).

10 communities have received the Stellar Communities Designation:

  • 2011  Greencastle & North Vernon
  • 2012  Delphi & Princeton
  • 2013  Bedford & Richmond
  • 2014  Huntingburg & Wabash
  • 2015  Crawfordsville & North Liberty

Since 2010 over 60 Hoosier communities have expressed interest in the program and 21 strategic investment plans have been created.
