The all-day event will feature a “midway” for attendees to collect information from genealogical societies, local history organizations, and Indiana libraries, and shop commercial vendors. Additionally, three programs are scheduled throughout the day and will be hosted by Marianne S. Wokeck, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs - IU School of Liberal Arts, Dani Pfaff, Research Manager - Indiana Historical Bureau, and Andrew Kossack, Public Access Councilor of the State of Indiana. Each program will each be worth one (1) LEU for librarians in attendance. The Fair is free and open to the public and attendees will receive a 20% discount (25% for libraries) on purchases from the Indiana Historical Bureau book shop. The State Library is also offering a full complement of Family History Month programming throughout October. These programs are free and open to the public and no registration is required. Many public libraries throughout Indiana are also hosting Family History Month events. For instance, the Allen County Public Library offers a lineup of programs that includes at least one workshop every single day in October. If you would like to share your library's Family History Month programming, email the event details to agriffis@library.in.gov. October also month to celebrate & support Indiana's archives Local historians and archivists have another reason to highlight their collections in October. Indiana Archives Month promotes the use of archives and the preservation of historic records within our communities. Archival repositories throughout our state, such as the Indiana State Archives, the Indiana State Library, and numerous local institutions, serve to preserve Indiana’s heritage through the written record. Through the archives, Hoosiers can study the past, trace their ancestors, learn about their community, and maintain the laws of our state. Tops on the list of Archives Month programming is “*Celebrate Archives Month – Civil War Outreach and More,” hosted by the Society of Indiana Archivists' (SIA), This SIA's Fall workshop is on Friday October 8, 2010 from 10:00 AM-4:00 PM (EDT) at the Allen County Public Library. The workshop will focus on how to use your Civil War materials—including photographs, manuscripts, and material objects—to promote Archives Month. Indiana University is also joining the fun with their fifth annual “Archives and Special Collections Month,” which includes programs throughout October. Additionally, the Indiana State Archives and partners will be providing official 2010 Indiana Archives Month posters* to local partners and libraries throughout Indiana. Dunkirk Library Receives $38,000 Grant The City of Dunkirk recently received a $38,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) from the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA) for the expansion of the Dunkirk Public Library and Glass Museum. The Library will provide 10% in matching grant funds for the $43,000 project, which will meet the Library's current space needs and allow for future growth. Through OCRA, Indiana requests federal funds to help rural communities with a variety of projects such as sewer and water systems, community centers, health and safety programs, and many others. These funds help communities improve their quality of life and ensure the health and safety of their citizens. More information about Block Grant Program is available online.
