Active Shooter Preparedness
Across our country, millions of students attend school safely every day. We have prepared them to meet life's challenges for years. Tragically, in light of recent events, we must now prepare them for the unthinkable. Both in our schools, and increasingly in our places of work, worship, and recreation, individuals with only violent intent bring unexpected death and destruction into our daily lives.
On this page you will find a number of resources prepared or gathered by the Indiana State Police to assist the public in understanding how to respond to an active shooter event. Resources have been prepared for both schools, places or worship, mid-sized busineses and government agencies, and for terrorist incident planning. For convenience, we have prepared a brief pamphlet describing this initiative and the available resources to share with administrators. The pamphlet may be downloaded by clicking on the following link:
It is our hope that none of us are ever faced with a situation where these skills must be put to the test. Nevertheless, as Theodore Roosevelt once said,
“In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing.”
