Please join us for an in-person Alcohol 101 workshop on Monday, June 24th at the Indiana State Government Center hosted by our forensic toxicologist, Melissa Galey. This will be an opportunity to learn more about alcohol and what effects it can have on the body and on driving behavior. We will also discuss specifics regarding testing (blood and breath) as well as legal considerations for OVWI cases. The event is 8:30 to 3:30PM. The Indiana State Department of Toxicology’s (ISDT) mission is to provide quality forensic toxicological services and education about the science of toxicology for the state of Indiana. ISDT supports the criminal justice system through analyses for alcohol and selected drugs in blood samples submitted by law enforcement agencies and coroners, furnishing expert testimony and education on the pharmacology and toxicology of drugs, training and certifying law enforcement officers to administer breath tests for alcohol, inspecting, maintaining, and certifying breath test instruments, and certifying ignition interlock device models. We believe quality results are obtained through professional, ethical, and unbiased analyses of evidentiary specimens entrusted to the Department for testing. The key to interpreting and understanding these results is achieved through the Department’s open communication and willingness to instruct others on the science of forensic toxicology.
