Advocate Expert Witness Testimony Training
May 1, 2024, Indiana Government Center South Conference Center, Indianapolis
If you're a victim advocate who has never testified before, or a prosecutor who has never called a domestic violence expert as a witness - then this is the training for you! Focusing on domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking fact scenarios, this course will help advocates uncover their own expertise and how it can best be utilized in criminal prosecutions. Attendees will learn how they can best teach jurors about victim behaviors and abuse dynamics within the parameters of applicable laws/rules. Advocates and prosecutors from neighboring counties/regions will meet each other, work together on preparing a direct examination for a mock case, and conduct that direct examination and receive feedback from experienced faculty members. The lectures, materials and much of the feedback you'll receive will come from national experts in victim-focused prosecution from the nonprofit organization, AEquitas.
