INDOT is advancing a multi-phase project to provide safe pedestrian facilities along State Route 9 (Scatterfield Road) in Anderson, Indiana, from 59th Street to Cross Street. As part of this effort, a public meeting is being held to present and discuss the segment between Mounds Road and University Boulevard, a heavily traveled commercial corridor not originally designed for pedestrian use. Recent feedback from residents and businesses indicates that the corridor is perceived as unsafe for non-motorized users, reinforcing the need for reliable pedestrian infrastructure. The proposed improvements include new sidewalks on both sides of the roadway, upgraded crosswalks and pedestrian signals at intersections, and targeted curb modifications to repurpose excess pavement for pedestrian use, minimizing impacts to utilities and right-of-way. The project is scheduled to begin construction in late 2028 and continue through the 2029 construction season.
