Federal Tuition Assistance Close-Out Information
- Soldiers can submit FY26 TA requests until Sept. 7, 2026 at 8 p.m. for courses with start dates up to Sept. 30, 2026.
- Soldiers may submit FY27 CA requests (for courses starting on or after Oct 1, 2026) up to 60 days in advance of the course start date but no later than 7 days before the course start date.
Supervisor Approval for FTA
As part of the Federal Tuition Assistance (FTA) process in ArmyIgnitED, soldiers must obtain supervisor approval before their request can move forward. If your supervisor is unavailable, a member of your chain of command or a commander-designated representative may approve your request. Who is considered your supervisor?
- First-Line Leader (E1-E4)
- NCOER Rater (NCOs)
- OER Rater (Officers)
- Technician Supervisor (T5, T32)
About Federal Tuition Assistance
The Federal Tuition Assistance (FTA) program provides financial assistance for voluntary off-duty education programs in support of a soldier's professional and personal self-development goals. Tuition Assistance (TA) is available for courses that are offered in the classroom or by distance learning and is part of an approved academic degree or certificate program. These courses must be offered by schools that are registered in ArmyIgnitED, are accredited by accrediting agencies that are recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and are signatories to the current Department of Defense Memorandum of Understanding (DOD MOU).
- FTA pays up to $250 per credit hour up to 18 hours or $4,500 per fiscal year.
- FTA is based on the availability of funds and cannot be guaranteed to all soldiers
- Soldiers may use FTA to receive ONE degree/credentials from each of the following levels:
-Certificate (technical and licensure)
-Associates degree
-Bachelor’s degree (130 semester hours maximum)
-Master’s degree (39 semester hours maximum)
Note: One undergraduate certificate program hour used will be against maximum months.
