Brigadier General Cathy Eaken assumed duties as the Assistant Deputy Commanding General of the U.S. Army Materiel Command on February 1, 2026. In this role, she ensures National Guard equities are synchronized with the sustainment enterprise. In her dual assignment role, she serves as the Assistant Adjutant General for the Indiana Army National Guard.

Upon her graduation from Ball State University, Eaken was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Quartermaster Corps. She is a native of South Bend, Indiana.

Brigadier General Eaken’s command assignments include HSC, 638th Aviation Support Battalion, 38th Combat Aviation Brigade, 38th Infantry Division, Noblesville, Indiana; 113th Brigade Support Battalion, 76th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 38th Infantry Division, Muncie, Indiana; and 38th Sustainment Brigade, 38th Infantry Division, Kokomo, Indiana.

Her key staff positions include Battalion Maintenance Officer, 738th Forward Support Battalion, Indianapolis, Indiana; State Assistant State Training Officer, Indiana National Guard, Indianapolis, Indiana; Family Programs Director, Indiana National Guard, Indianapolis, Indiana; Public Affairs Officer, Indiana National Guard, Indianapolis, Indiana; Chief of Staff, 38th Infantry Division, Indianapolis, Indiana; J4, Indiana National Guard, Indianapolis, Indiana; and Chief of Staff, Indiana National Guard, Indianapolis, Indiana.

Her combat and operational service includes one deployment to Afghanistan in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM as the S3 of the 219th Area Support Group, one deployment to Kuwait in support of OPERATION SPARTAN SHIELD as the G4, 38th Infantry Division and one deployment to Jordan in support of OPERATION SPARTAN SHIELD as the Deputy Commanding General – Sustainment, 38th Infantry Division. Her awards include the Legion of Merit (1 OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (5 OLC), Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal (1 OLC), National Defense Service Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon (3 OLC), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, NATO Medal, Joint Unit Meritorious Unit Award and the Meritorious Unit Commendation.

Brigadier General Eaken has a degree in Social Work from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana and a Master’s Degree in Military Strategy from the United States Army War College. In her civilian capacity she serves as the Director of Strategy for the Indiana National Guard, as a state employee.
