Assistant Adjutant General (Army)

Major General Justin Mann is the Assistant Adjutant General (Army) for the Indiana National Guard and Commander, 81st Troop Command, Indianapolis, Indiana.

Maj. Gen. Mann has spent the last three decades serving within the Indiana National Guard. As Director of the Joint Staff from Nov. 2021 to Sept. 2026, he led Joint Force Headquarters through organizational transitions, mobilizations, domestic response missions and evolving operational demands. Maj. Gen. Mann also served as the Present Deputy Commanding General – Mobilization from Oct. 2022 to Oct. 2026. His leadership has been instrumental in ensuring the Indiana National Guard remains an operational force, ready to respond at home and around the world.

Maj. Gen. Mann received his commission through ROTC in 1995. He earned a BA in Law and Society from Purdue University and has completed U.S. Army Command and General Staff College and the U.S. Army War College, with an MSS in Strategic Studies.

Prior to serving as Director of the Joint Staff, Maj. Gen. Mann served in Indianapolis as Commander, 76th Infantry Brigade from Dec. 2018 to Oct. 2021; Executive Officer, 76th Infantry Brigade Combat Team from Sep. 2016 to Dec. 2018 and Executive Officer, Joint Forces Headquarters from July 2015 to Sep. 2016. Other assignments included Commander, 1st Squadron 152d Calvary, New Albany, Indiana from April 2012 to July 2015; Executive Officer, 1st Battalion 151st Infantry, Jasper, Indiana from May 2009 to April 2015 and as Liaison Officer, Headquarters, Headquarters Company 76th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Indianapolis, Dec. 2008 to May 2009.

Operational assignments include serving as Executive Officer, 113th Brigade Support Battalion, Operation IRAQI FREEDOM, Balad Air Base and Q-West AFB, Iraq, Dec. 2007 to Dec. 2008; Logistics Officer (S4), Headquarters, Headquarters and Company, 1st Battalion, 63rd Armor, Vilseck, Germany from Oct. 1998 to Dec. 1999; Executive Officer, Company A, 1st Battalion, 63rd Armor, Vilseck, Germany Feb. 1997 to Oct.1998; and

Platoon Leader, Company D, 1st Battalion, 63rd Armor, Vilseck, Germany and Skopje, (former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia) in Feb. 1996.
