A Message from Commissioner Lloyd Arnold

Since I started as Commissioner, I have been talking about a people-first mindset. What that means is that we take care of our team. And we do that while we take care of those that we oversee in our facilities and parole districts.

We have made some changes in recent months geared to better serving our staff and our population. One of those changes was to create a new logo with new core values.

Strengthen applies to all of us — our staff, our population, our entire agency. We will work to build resilience and fortify the skills, knowledge, and character of individuals, staff, and the organization as a whole.

Inspire is for our staff to want to further their careers and grow within the DOC, while we also inspire the incarcerated population and those recently released to turn their lives around.

Reform means to promote change and provide opportunities for growth. We will embrace the opportunity to make meaningful changes, creating pathways for personal growth and successful reintegration of individuals into society.

We are well on our way to embodying these core values with the work you do every day. This includes Leading From Within, which is still a focus of ours. The Division of Workforce Engagement is incorporating this into all levels of training, and facilities and parole districts have been making it their own. We will continue to utilize those important lessons and move that mission forward.

Right now, is a busy time with the legislative session. DOC has three agency bills that we are moving through the process that will have positive impacts on what we do, and my goal is to see each of those come to fruition.

Please know, this summer you will be seeing us in the field more. We want to spend time with you and support you in the important jobs you are doing for this agency. In the meantime, my door is always open. If you are happy, tell everyone. If you aren't, tell your supervisor or tell me and my team. You can call me, email me, or drop by my office. I want to hear from you.

Thank you for being a part of what we do,
Signature of Commissionner
Lloyd Arnold, Commissioner
