Officer Breann Leath Maternal and Child Health Unit Eligibility Criteria
- Eligibility Criteria for Offender Mothers:
- Offender shall be pregnant at the time she is delivered into the custody of the Department of Correction;
- Offender’s earliest possible release date is thirty (30) months or less from the offender’s projected delivery date;
- Offender who have been charged with a sex crime or any type of violence, abuse or endangerment of a child shall be reviewed by the Executive Director of Transitional Healthcare and the Chief Medical Officer;
- Offender mother and child are free of severe functional impairment impacting daily living classified by physical and/or mental health diagnoses by a physician;
- Offender is legal, sole custodian of child;
- Offender must be willing to sign a consent agreeing to abide by all rules and stipulations of the unit;
- Offender must be willing to sign a release of information to research any involvement with Department of Child Services;
- Offender mother may be denied participation for any reason deemed appropriate by the Chief Medical Officer.
- Selection and Enrollment:
- Transitional Healthcare Manager or (designee) shall keep an active database of all offenders who are pregnant at the time she is delivered into the custody of the Department of Correction;
- Transitional Healthcare Executive Director and Transitional Healthcare Manager must review all pregnant offender's charges and conduct history on an case-by-case basis for eligibility onto the program;
- Notification and documentation of pregnant offenders screened and deemed eligible by Executive Director of Transitional Healthcare and Transitional Healthcare Manager shall be provided to the Maternal-Child Healthcare Coordinator;
- The Maternal-Child Healthcare Coordinator must schedule a consultation with all pregnant offenders deemed eligible. No offender shall be admitted into the MCHU without meeting with the Maternal Child Health Coordinator.
