Welcome to The Indiana Department of Correction


Prior to your first day:

Prior to your first day with the Indiana Department of Correction, please visit The Indiana State Personnel Department's Onboarding website where you will find the information useful to you as you start your new role with State Government.

Important new hire documents are also provided on the website. Please review the photo ID requirements provided on the Form I-9 and bring unexpired identification documents for your first day orientation. Copies will not be accepted. Documents must be the original.

What to bring to your first day:

Processing of new hires includes, but is not limited to, completion of the Form I-9, W-4, W-H 4, and direct deposit enrollment. On day one, new employees must bring acceptable identification for Form I-9. These forms are available on the New Employee Paperwork page.

What to Expect:

Upon being hired by the Indiana Department of Correction, you are required to complete the New Employee Training Process:

Phase 1: New Employee Orientation and skill-based training at your facility training center.

Phase 2: CPR, First Aid, AED training, and on the job training at your facility training center.

Phase 3: Academy training at your regional training center.

Phase 4: Adult: Completion of on the job training at your facility.

Phase 4: Juvenile: Making A Change Academy training at the Correctional Training Institute.

Phase 5: Juvenile: Completion of on the job training at your facility.

New employee training consists of a mixture of classroom and practicum exercises, along with 4 weeks of On the Job training with a certified Field Training Officer. Training includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Personal Protection
  • Security Skills
  • First Aid, CPR, AED
  • Career Development
  • Bias and Diversity in Corrections
  • Report Writing
