Remediation Technology Evaluations

The Technology Evaluation Group of the Science Services Branch uses a multidisciplinary approach to evaluate proposed technologies for remediation purposes and other technical issues and provide guidance to IDEM staff as to the technology’s applicability and effectiveness. If adequate information is available to evaluate the technology, a technical guidance document is written describing the technology and issues pertinent to its use.

These evaluations do not "approve" the technology nor do they verify its effectiveness in conditions not identified in the evaluation. Mention of trade names or commercial products do not constitute endorsement or recommendation by IDEM of their use.

Effectiveness of any technology must be documented for site specific conditions. Also, remediation technologies do not have to be evaluated by the workgroup for use at remediation sites. The project manager has discretion to allow technologies to be used as long as appropriate methods of monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of the technology are used.

Evaluations of general types of technologies will describe the technology, advantages, limitations, problems encountered, and safety issues, and will identify issues that the project managers and technical staff should take into account when this technology is proposed for their site. These general evaluations will be posted on this website.

Specific technology products will be evaluated only for IDEM staff for proposed site work in Indiana. Products submitted by entities external to IDEM will not be evaluated unless they are submitted by an IDEM project manager for an existing site. These evaluations will also describe the technology, advantages, limitations, problems encountered, safety issue, and any other issues for staff to determine applicability to their sites. Evaluations of specific remediation products will not be posted on this website, but will be available as guidance for IDEM staff.

The following general remediation technologies have been evaluated:
