Eddie Melton elected ICSSBM Chairman

Indiana - At the June 25, 2014 Indiana Commission on the Social Status of Black Males commission meeting Eddie Melton, NIPSCO Community Relations Manager, was elected Chairman for the Commission.  The former Chairman, Elijah Neal, was elected as the Vice Chair.
Chairman Melton brings leadership and extensive experience in community development and organization building. Melton has successfully established mentoring initiatives the help support the development of emerging leaders and communities-at-large. Presently, he is leading The Mentoring Trust fostering useful connections between youth and mentors.
Melton states, “My goal is to connect our youth with the right individuals at the right time to result in a winning combination for their growth, success and future.”
Melton has a strong passion for Black males and is compelled to help Black males succeed and achieve.  In his role as Chairman of the Indiana Commission on the Social Status of Black Males Melton will use his experience, intellect, passion and religious grounding to meet the challenge.
Vice Chair, Elijah Neal will be an excellent partner to Chairman Melton and will be able to utilize his experience as the former Chairman to continue the good work of the Commission. Neal is a SQL Report Developer at Angie’s List.  His experience and training is in Information Technology and services.
During his tenure as Chairman the Commission expanded the annual Indiana Black Barbershop Health Initiative and initiated Second Chance Law forums to assist Black males in having their criminal records expunged to help them access employment and housing opportunities.
Vice Chair Neal stated, “Congratulations Chairman Melton, now let’s get to work and make a difference for Black males.”
