Indianapolis – The Indiana Civil Rights Commission would like to welcome our new Executive Director, Rick Hite. On Thursday, February 25, 2016 Indiana Governor Mike Pence announced his appointment of the ICRC’s new head and Hite has officially assumed this role today, Monday, February 29.
During his first day on the job, Hite spoke to a group of young African American men at the Indiana Commission on the Social Status of Black Males’ Youth Day at the Statehouse event. After being introduced by Governor Pence, E.D. Hite gave motivating remarks to the young males in attendance, encouraging them strive for their absolute best.
“You have to be successful. If you’re not then we’re not. We have failed if you’re not successful… Daring to be different means you’re willing to change people, places and behaviors to the point where you can be the shining example for others to follow.”
Previously, Hite served as Chief of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD), and previously worked as Deputy Director of Public Safety. Prior to leading the IMPD, Hite served with the Baltimore City Police Department for 32 years. He has served on the board of directors of the Department of justice Advisory Committee and has earned a number of related certifications.
Hite, a Gary, Indiana native, developed and fostered relationships with communities and organizations throughout the state during his tenure as IMPD Chief, and will now guide the ICRC’s statewide efforts to uphold the state’s civil rights laws.
The Indiana Civil Rights Commission enforces the Indiana civil rights laws and provides education and services to the public in an effort to ensure equal opportunity for all Hoosiers and visitors to the State of Indiana.
