Anderson—It's no secret discrimination remains a serious concern throughout the state, and it is vital that communities talk about these issues in order to ensure equal opportunities exist for all people. On Thursday, October 18th the Indiana Civil Rights Commission (ICRC), the Anderson Chapter of Indiana Black Expo, Inc. (IBE), the City of Anderson’s Human Relations Department (AHRD) and the Anderson/Madison County Black Chamber of Commerce did just that at the Madison County Community Health Center in Anderson.
The panel discussion, titled 'Know Your Rights' allowed those in attendance to learn more about civil rights protection, the relationship between the Anderson Human Relations Department and the Indiana Civil Rights Commission, and provide a forum to ask questions.
Throughout the evening several serious concerns were brought to light.
"This program provided an open forum to share concerns and ask questions to identified leaders within the community," said ICRC Communications Manager Brad Meadows who moderated the discussion. "The Anderson Human Relations Department, the Anderson Chapter of Indiana Black Expo and the Anderson/Madison County Black Chamber are all great organizations serving the Anderson community."
The groups have tentatively scheduled another program, the third 'Know Your Rights' program in Anderson, in February 2013.
