St Vincent's Hospital

The Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul opened its state-of-the-art hospital here on February 3, 1913, i its third location in Indianapolis since 1881.ii Facilities and services were improved and expanded to include a nursing school and residence hall in 1927 iii and a 35-bed children's department in 1939.iv Philanthropic Hospital Guild was founded in 1933.v

Daughters of Charity moved to convent built on grounds 1960 to make room for 65 additional patient beds 1962.vi Coronary unit added 1966.vii Limitations of building and land resulted in 1974 move to 86th Street site.viii Facilities here used for subsidized housing until 2003;ix purchased by Ivy Tech Community College 2006.x Much of original 1913 front brick façade remains.xi
