The following is an archived post from the IHB blog Marking Hoosier History.

Lawrence County and Monroe County are celebrating Limestone Month in June with a variety of activities and events.

Limestone, which is quarried in central and southern Indiana, was adopted by the Indiana General Assembly as the official State Stone and codified into law in 1971.  See Indiana Code 1-2-9-1.

You can learn more about the history of the limestone industry in Indiana from the Indiana Limestone Heritage Trail.
