Letter from George Rogers Clark to his Friend George Mason

The introduction and text of the memoir, which follows in several parts, are quoted from Conquest of the Country Northwest of the River Ohio 1778-1783 and Life of Gen. George Rogers Clark by William Hayden English. The two volumes were published by The Bowen-Merrill Company, Indianapolis, Indiana, and Kansas City, Missouri, in 1897.

Appendix to volume one, page 410: "Letter to George Mason, of Virginia, dated "Louisville, Falls of Ohio, November 19, 1779." This letter, for some unaccountable reason, did not get into print until 1869, when it was published by Robert Clarke & Co., of Cincinnati, as one of the valuable "Ohio Valley Historical Series," with an interesting introduction by Hon. Henry Pirtle, of Louisville. The high standing of George Mason, and his agency in originating the Illinois campaign, has already been stated."
