Cancer Registry

The Indiana State Cancer Registry (ISCR) was established "for the purpose of recording all cases of malignant disease and other tumors and precancerous diseases required to be reported by federal law or federal regulation or the National Program of Cancer Registries that are diagnosed or treated in Indiana, and compiling necessary and appropriate information concerning those cases, as determined by the state department, in order to conduct epidemiologic surveys of cancer and to apply appropriate preventive and control measures." (IC 16-38-2-1)

We acknowledge the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), for its support of the ISCR, under cooperative agreement 5U58DP000838-03 awarded to the Indiana Department of Health. The findings and conclusions in this report are those of the author(s) and do not necessarily represent the official position of the CDC.

The ISCR has received the Registry of Distinction certification from CDC’s National Program of Cancer Registries. This certification is based on an annual review of data quality, completeness, and timeliness.

In 2019, the ISCR received this certification for cancer data collected for the diagnosis year 2016.

The ISCR has been designated a U.S. Cancer Statistics (USCS) Registry for Surveillance by CDC’s National Program of Cancer Registries. This recognition is based on an annual review of data quality, completeness, and timeliness.

The ISCR has received the highest level of certification, the Gold Standard, from the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries (NAACCR). This certification is based on an annual review of data quality, completeness, and timeliness.
