Programs

The members of the Evansville State Hospital treatment teams are comprised of the unit physician or nurse practitioner, nursing personnel, social workers, behavioral clinicians or psychologists, rehabilitation therapists, and family/guardian/healthcare representative or significant other. These dedicated team members, in collaboration with the patient, play a key role in promoting recovery.

ESH offers a variety of treatment models to assist patients in their recovery which included the following:

  • Rehabilitation Therapy Models - These programs require that the patient be active in their program in a variety of ways: physically, creatively, socially, cognitively and/or academically.
    • Leisure Ability Model
      • Has an emphasis on basic functional abilities and adaptive behaviors.
      • Helps to develop attitudes, self-awareness and decision making skills.
      • Allows for self-regulation and the ability to make choices.
    • Health Protection/Health Promotion Model
      • The ultimate goal of this model is to assist the patient with improving/maintaining long term health, reducing risk factors and developing healthy lifestyles.

  • Vocational Rehabilitation and Community Integration Program Model
    • Vocational Rehabilitation provides patients with job training and experience. Patient’s skills are assessed and training is provided in areas such as basic computer skills and job search techniques.
    • Community Integration Program provides assessment of patient’s skills in living in an independent home environment and accessing resources in the community. Topics such as domestic skills, finance, transportation and community mental health resources are addressed.
