Population

Evansville Psychiatric Children’s Center serves Indiana’s emotionally disturbed children, ages 5 to 13, from throughout the state. Children are referred to our facility by a liaison from a local community mental health center when it is determined that a child currently receiving outpatient services is in need of a higher level of care. This liaison contacts EPCC, and the admissions team reviews the referral and begins the admissions process, if approved.

Children come to EPCC with diagnoses from the community mental health centers. The predominant diagnoses represented are attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, anxiety disorder and post traumatic stress disorder. The average length of stay for a child at the hospital is five to six months.

The children live in a dormitory setting during their stay, which is divided into two separate dorms, one for older boys, and one for younger boys and all girls. This dorm setting includes a common living area, dining room, bathrooms and individual bedrooms on two different hallways.
